I need to find a way to add leisure to my weeks, in the form of reading Indie Goodness
Last week is overflowing into this week
Hence this post being a day late, apologies to you all.
So much work, so little time.
An example of this is my family from the Sunny Coast were coming down to Brisbane to have lunch with me and catch up. Did I book anything? No I did not. It was at 11am on the day of the lunch that I remembered the lunch and that I should have booked something days ago. DoH!
With only Irish luck on my side I marched to the restaurant only to find it was packed. CRAP! I stood there like a stunned mullet wondering what the hell to do. The family were 20 minutes away… a family of 7 mind you. What the hell was I going to do?
Then the ol’ Irish luck kicked in and a table of 9 all got up, paid their bill and off they went. Holy s**t I thought…. “waiter waiter is that table booked?” “um.. that one… hmmmm… no” EUREKA!!!! “I’ll have it thanks”!
Lunch saved by pure dumb luck! The universe liked me that day. nice.

There’s more to life than Kickstarter
The Grot: The Story of the Swamp City Grifters
“Anyone willing to get filthy can also get rich.” In this dystopian swamp city, two brothers find that opportunity and exploitation lurk around every corner. But who’s smarter: the hordes of people rushing to move in, or the equal horde desperate to leave?
Penn and Lipton Wise have set out to Falter City to make their fortune. It’s the future, obviously, and things are pretty grim. The Australian landscape is traumatized. Plague is rampant. Machines only work as well as the poor sod pedaling them. Things are hotter and wetter than they used to be, giving the whole place the vibe of a sweaty armpit.
Lippy and Penn are hoping to set up shop in this grimy boom-town, but they’ve got to stay frosty, because it’s teeming with hustlers, swindlers, and scoundrels. It’s the sort of place where a lucky moron could make an outrageous fortune in an afternoon and lose it all before bedtime. The sort of place where two enterprising teenagers could really make something of themselves. Or so they say.
It’s not exactly a comic, but it is an Australian Created Comic Character.
AS A PLUSH TOY
OMG!
What’s Happening at ComX Studio?
Well, last Tuesday 3 ComX sites were hacked thanks to a Theme update introducing an exploit hole that made it possible to bypass all the security the sites have. (plus 4 client sites). Then to add injury to insult 2 days later another exploit hole was opened, this time by a plugin. So then I needed to fix a bunch more websites. Fun times.
For those with WordPress sites, if you have the Bricks Theme or the Elementor Pro plugin, get your website looked at. The Sucuri service will be helpful if you don’t have a good maintenance plan or a good hosting provider.
Apart from the hacking, the other exciting development is we’re making the comic slowly being creating in Ed Kearsley’s show, Let’s Make A Comic Book, called BLANK (named after the main character).
Also this week we should be getting proofs for Gods Among Men and Twisted Fayte so that’s exciting and one of those “can’t wait” moments.
Oh and BLANK’s Pre-Launch page was launched yesterday.
Early Birds are the Words! Early bird special pricing, Early Bird Bonuses. What’s all this mean? Well to maximise your savings and gifts you need to pledge in the first 12hrs of the campaign. What’s the best way to not miss out? GET NOTIFIED!!!
Go to the pre-launch page and click the “Notify me on launch” button and get an email when we launch for reals!
Good chunk of the week was building a new Website for ComX Studio
In n afford to further assist ComX Studio Creator I’ve revamped and restructured how the site works. It’s not 100% complete but it’s complete enough to go live and be useful. Check it out and let me know your thoughts by replying to this email. Click the giant sample image to go to website.
This may, or may not have, totally gutted me!
But Seriously…
Thank you so much, you made it to the bottom of what feels like my longest post to date. You’re a freakin’ legend!
Indie Comics need more people like you. I’ll ask again, do you know a good Australian Indie comic or series or graphic novel I should be reading and talking about? Let me know by emailing at the address in footer. I know I’ve only scratched the surface to date, so I need your help to dig deeper into the Aussie scene.
